You might be amazed by the brilliance of some professionals if you have ever watched WSOP. You will realize that it is very easy for them to know when one of them is bluffing or not. Mostly this does not happen by chance or luck, it is just a matter of knowing their opponents tendencies. Therefore, by developing your own style, you will be able to have an upper hand while playing before anyone is able to figure it out.

Key poker playing styles

There are four main distinct categories that most players fall into loose aggressive, loose passive, tight aggressive and tight passive. By using the word loose or tight, the terms basically describe a poker players frequency of played hands. It is important to establish what type of a player you are and where you exactly lie. Those players who play many hands and mix their play up are the ones known as loose poker players while the type of player who waits for a good opportunity to be on a good position is the one referred to as a tight poker player.

Passive vs Aggressive

A poker betting tendency is described by the terms passive and aggressive. A passive player can be described as the normal between the two because the player will normally call many times despite the fact that they will have to over card or top pair. An aggressive player on the other hand can be described as a risk taker mainly because they give other players the chance to lead them to the test and they also have the tendency of raise or bet.

To No Limit Texas Hold’em, a loose passive player is generally a new player. They start with any hand not really understanding which hand holds the upper hand. They will generally give the opponent a chance to catch cards when the turn and flop are shown catching the bottom or middle pair. When this happens, the opponent might easily be scared off with a huge bet on the river. The type of player that you will always want to be on your right is the loose aggressive player because they are very dangerous. This is mainly because they can afford to play many types of hands and still be able to be aggressive mixing you even further. For this type of a player, it is extremely difficult to put them on a hand or even being able to predict their next move. The most respected player at a poker table is a tight passive player. Being a passive player has its own advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that a passive player only calls a bet when they have a good card and the disadvantage is that they have a limited number of hands.
